EN
Ophelia by Lithuanian sculptor Vytautas Viržbickas features a dog suspended in a glass structure, simulating the movement of floating in water. Rather than a literal depiction of Ophelia’s tragic fate, Viržbickas captures the act of “let it flow,” symbolizing an existential acceptance and balance with life’s forces. This image reflects the artist’s interest in themes of civic passivity and the quiet flow of modern existence.

Vytautas Viržbickas (b. 1987) is an emerging Lithuanian artist who studied sculpture at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. His work has been shown in institutions like Le Magasin in France and at art fairs such as Artissima and viennacontemporary. Viržbickas’s works are held in several notable collections, including the Servais Family Collection in Belgium and the MO Museum in Lithuania. Known for his conceptual exploration of social structures, Viržbickas abstracts themes of geopolitics, information culture, and solitude into potent, symbolic forms, making his work a bold contribution to contemporary sculpture.
