Penumbra, 2024. Oil on canvas, 140x105. The word penumbra itself is derived from Latin (paene "almost, nearly") and umbra (shadow), namely the partial eclipse of a light source/sun. Penumbra is a partial illumination, the title refers to the figurative problem addressed in the painting, and at the same time, metaphorically, it can symbolise some sort of turn towards the light, a hopeful look at the future, the world, because umbra is the dark side of the shadow, which the light does not reach, and penumbra is the light side of the shadow. In other words, the painting explores the transition state between light and darkness, which could also be described as "dawn". That moment when it is still dark, the sun is below the horizon, but the sky above the horizon is already beginning to glow.
