Benas Matijošaitis : Lorem Ipsum
For several years in a row, Galerija VARTAI has been happy to open its space to young talents, graduates of the Vilnius Academy of Arts. This year, we are looking forward to presenting the graduation exhibitions of Kristijonas Gurčinas and Benas Matijošaitis.

Lorem Ipsum
Lorem Ipsum is a fictional, illogical text made up of a random mix of words. It aims to show the font and the layout of the page without focusing on its content. It is a text that is intended not to be read and, if read, not to be understood.
Nowadays, the world is full of information overload that makes it difficult to distinguish between what is true, what is false, what is relevant and what is completely irrelevant. It is very easy to get completely lost and unable to digest the flow of information we are confronted with. Living in this constant clutter of images, contents and subtexts, we are only able to understand fragments of the whole picture, so therefore I am asking myself, is this all just Lorem Ipsum? If the plethora of information that we are exposed to does not really have a coherent message, but is a random mix of images and contents, then why should we limit ourselves to particular stories and their integrity? Why shouldn't we surrender to this overload?
In my series of paintings, I am not searching for a specific narrative, a clear theme or style, but a way to convey the noise of information that surrounds me. By "overloading" myself with random illustrations found in scrap paper, I am trying to form a new web of entangled images, which would invite the viewer to reflect on his or her own relationship with image recognition, to look for fragments that are familiar to him or her in this jumble of paintings, and to try to engage in this noise of images that I have formed.
