"Who, if not an eccentrically dressed fool, can tell us the truth without being beheaded? The jester proclaims, "Hic est praebebit spem fallacem" (This is just an illusion), pointing a finger to the sky! He forces us to notice that the sky is false, mimicking the appearance of the world, thereby deceiving the senses and enchanting the eyes with its grandeur, loosening purse strings.
Gazing deeper into the treacherous image, one can see serpents, and the jester warns: "Be careful." Instead of a usual staff, he holds a playing card, recalling the story of Saint John's test of faith when a priest offered him a cup of poisoned wine, from which two had already died. Saint John not only drank it without dying but also resurrected the aforementioned corpses."
