The object is crafted using a lengthy marquetry technique, with the concept emerging intuitively throughout the making process. Rather than starting with a fixed goal, the piece evolved organically and improvisationally, with each step informing the next. It reflects on the role of contemporary artisan practice, embodying an interplay between precision and disorder, between the obsessive side of craftsmanship and the struggle to maintain focus. ADHDOCD is both a meditation on material and process and an exploration of how planning and improvisation coexist in the act of making.
Martynas Gailiušas is a designer and artist based in Vilnius, Lithuania. His practice is shaped by years of experience in engineering, prop making, and both hands-on and digital fabrication. He explores the narratives and structures behind socio-political phenomena and the material culture that surrounds us. Through installation, film, and object making, he investigates the current state of the world, drawing inspiration from industrial production, sports, critical theory, political philosophy, folklore, and history. His work is often guided by autoethnographic research and intuitive making methods. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Product Design from the University of Bradford and a master’s in Contextual Design from the Design Academy Eindhoven. Alongside his practice, he also works as a guest tutor at Vilnius Academy of Arts.
