Mantas Platūkis is a young generation artist and painter from Vilnius. Mantas is interested in the development of technical images and analyses them in his paintings. He works with images taken from different media, using photographs, reproductions, magazines, film stills and polaroids as secondary material. The material, coming from different media and contexts, manifests itself in the works as an abstract concrete, symbolizing a fact that, faded and stretched by time or our memory, can change its meaning and form. This game of blurring of meaning, combined with a clear ambivalence, creates images with symbolic meaning that are forcibly torn away from the original in the process. The painterly problems in the work of Mantas Platūkis coincide with the reflections of the contemporary world, with the attempt to understand and comprehend the transformations, ambiguities and pains of both his own generation and the times.
