Benas Matijošaitis bases his creative practice on collecting randomly found visual material. By creating and collecting an archive of various illustrations, he explores the charm of images. It is important for his creative approach not to know the context of the images he finds, so he often uses magazines and newspapers written in incomprehensible languages, thus maintaining a fresh perspective unspoiled by verbal content. This naive approach to the material allows him to play with the aesthetic and symbolic references of the found images without commitment. In his work, he aims to replicate the sensation of encountering unseen images for the first time, and in this way he combines found photographs and illustrations into new combinations and aesthetic juxtapositions.
