Neringa Vasiliauskaitė Lithuanian, b. 1984
Neringa Vasiliauskaitė makes sculpture from the unstable boundary between an object and the space it appears to belong to.
Neringa Vasiliauskaitė is a Lithuanian artist whose sculptural practice centres on the relationship between objects and interior space. Working primarily in glass and ceramics, she combines familiar forms with controlled surfaces, allowing domestic references to shift into objects that appear at once recognisable and estranged.
After completing a BA and MA at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Vasiliauskaitė continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich under Nicole Wermers and Thierry Boissel. There she developed a sculptural practice that treats glass and ceramics not as autonomous disciplines but as materials through which space and everyday objects can be reconsidered.
Her works are held in the collections of MO Museum (Vilnius), Kunstmuseum Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe), Städtische Galerie Villingen-Schwenningen (Villingen-Schwenningen), Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung (Munich) and Glass Museum Ernsting Stiftung (Coesfeld-Lette).
Neringa Vasiliauskaitė is represented by Galerija VARTAI.

ARTISTIC PRACTICE
Neringa Vasiliauskaitė constructs sculptures from forms that seem to have been removed from an interior and separated from their original setting. Architectural details, decorative surfaces and everyday objects provide points of departure, but their familiar functions are suspended. What remains is a resemblance that cannot be fully identified.
Working primarily in glass and ceramics, Vasiliauskaitė uses the physical properties of each material to alter the apparent weight and presence of an object. Forms that recall furnishings or ornament become difficult to classify as transparency, reflection and surface disrupt expectations of scale, function and permanence. Material is never incidental. It shapes how the sculpture occupies space and how long it resists being fully understood.
Repetition is equally important to her practice. Shapes return with slight variations, producing relationships based on rhythm and recognition rather than narrative. Installed together, the sculptures resemble fragments of an interior whose organising logic remains just out of reach.
Memory enters through this partial familiarity. Rather than reconstructing a particular place or time, Vasiliauskaitė works with the moment in which recognition begins but remains incomplete.
