“Can You [K]not?” lamp is a simple and exuberant design that incorporates conceptual thinking, challenging societal interactions and methods along the way. The aim was to create a piece that highlights the flaws in our society through the use of colour. Red has a complex history that reflects the dualistic nature of prejudices that exist within society. While our society has made significant strides towards becoming a more inclusive and equitable place for all, there is still a tendency towards stagnation. By creating a statement piece in the shape of a knot, which is restrained to bow down to its’ user, I hope to start a conversation by visually questioning the current societal situation.
