Alina Melnikova (b. 1983, Vilnius, Lithuania) is a contemporary artist based in Vilnius and Barcelona, working across multiple mediums such as oil painting, drawing, installation, ceramics, and performance art. Since graduating from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2008, her works have been widely exhibited across Europe, including Austria, Spain, Germany, Poland, and Finland.

Melnikova’s art delves into the visual language of seduction, exploring notions of sensuality, sexuality, and erotism. Her recent works focus on the intersection of nature/naturality and artificiality, reflecting on sociocultural transformations. Expanding from gender identity to the realms of post-humanism and post-identity, Melnikova’s work transcends anthropocentric perspectives, challenging hierarchical classifications of life forms.

Drawing inspiration from scientific theories by thinkers such as Donna Haraway and Lynn Margulis, Melnikova’s creative process remains deeply intuitive, embracing ambiguity, paradox, and doubt. Through her multi-layered use of different media, she incorporates ecological and cultural dimensions, offering a semantically rich and visually complex experience.

Melnikova has received numerous accolades, including the Award for Young Painters in Lithuania (2009) and a prestigious residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2013). Her work is featured in significant international collections such as the Dietrich Mateschitz Red Bull Collection, the Lewben Art Foundation, and the Modern Art Center in Vilnius. In 2022, her work was included in the book “Lithuanian Women Artists: From the Beginning of the 20th Century to the Present Day” by A. Narušytė.

Currently, Melnikova is an associate member of La Escocesa, an analogical art creation center in Barcelona, and collaborates with Italian artist Fabrizio Contarino in a duo that investigates visual memory related to pop culture. She is preparing for an upcoming group exhibition at MOCAK Contemporary Art Center in Krakow, Poland in 2023.
