Laura Garbštienė (b. 1973, Vilkija, Lithuania) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans performance, photography, video art, and film. She graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2000 with a degree in textile arts but quickly moved beyond traditional textile practices, embracing various forms of artistic expression. Since 2013, Garbštienė has been living in the village of Šklėriai, near the Dzūkija National Park, where she raises a small flock of sheep. There, she initiated Verpėjos ("The Spinners"), a project promoting spinning as an anti-capitalist movement that connects people from different cultures through traditional craft. Her work often explores themes of nature, ecological consciousness, and the decline of rural life. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at Galerija Vartai. Garbštienė’s artworks are part of the collections of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art and the MO Museum in Vilnius.
