Overview

Ervinas Blažys–Faktūra constructs images from discarded materials, allowing paper, found objects, and architectural fragments to become new forms of structure.

Ervinas Blažys–Faktūra is a Lithuanian interdisciplinary artist working across relief, sculpture, and installation. Using paper, industrial fragments, and urban debris, he constructs works that occupy the space between painting and object, transforming ordinary materials into carefully ordered structures.

His practice grows from sustained observation of the built environment. Discarded objects, architectural details, and overlooked surfaces are collected, layered, and reassembled until they lose their original function and acquire a new visual logic. Rather than representing the city, Blažys–Faktūra allows its materials to become the work itself, revealing new relationships between structure and material.

Ervinas Blažys–Faktūra studied Economics at Vilnius University and Kyungpook National University before completing an MA in Technology and Innovation Management at ISM University of Management and Economics. Recent solo exhibitions include Extraterrestrial at Galerija VARTAI (2025), Spinning with Rats at Urban Spree, Berlin (2025), and The Most Important Quality at Autarkia, Vilnius (2022).

Ervinas Blažys–Faktūra is represented by Galerija VARTAI.

Biography

ARTISTIC PRACTICE

Ervinas Blažys–Faktūra begins with materials whose previous function remains visible. Paper, sand, rope, branches, and fragments collected from the urban environment are cut, layered, and assembled until they begin to function as constructed reliefs rather than conventional paintings.

The city provides both material and method. Architectural details, neglected objects, and industrial remnants are removed from their original contexts and reorganised into new structures whose meaning emerges through accumulation rather than representation. His works often resemble fragments of buildings, maps, or archaeological remains while resisting any single reading.

Paper occupies a central position within the practice. Built layer by layer, then partially concealed or excavated again, its surface records the process of construction as visibly as the finished image. Rather than masking the material, Blažys–Faktūra allows it to determine the structure of each work.

Across installation and object-making, the artist continues this investigation of construction and transformation. His works ask how familiar materials acquire new meaning once removed from their everyday function, suggesting that the overlooked fabric of the city already contains the possibility of another architecture.
