ARTISTIC PRACTICE 

Laurynas Skeisgiela's projects begin with a stay rather than a script. Before filming or installing, he spends extended periods within a particular place, allowing its rhythms, routines, and relationships to determine the work that eventually emerges.

Observation is not preliminary research but the practice itself. Whether working around a lighthouse, within the backstage life of an opera, or alongside a local community, Skeisgiela is interested in the structures that organise everyday experience before they become visible. The finished work grows from sustained proximity rather than predetermined narrative.

Time becomes a material in its own right. Rather than compressing experience into a single image or event, Skeisgiela allows duration to remain present within the work, so that repeated encounters gradually reveal patterns that would otherwise pass unnoticed.

Across film, installation, and curatorial practice, his projects suggest that understanding is rarely immediate. It is produced through remaining with a place long enough for it to begin describing itself.
