On the 5-8th of September, the 9th edition of Vilnius Gallery Weekend (VGW) invites residents and guests of Vilnius to get to know the contemporary art spaces, visit new exhibitions and meet the artists.
This year's theme of the VGW - HABITS. What is a gallery today? Is it a physical space, or is it people (curators, artists, exhibition visitors)? Seven galleries and the Lithuanian National Museum will try to answer the question by deciding to change their spaces: In The Closet <-> Offshore Eyes, Rooster Gallery <-> apiece, VDA Lauko ekspo <-> parodų erdvė „5 malūnai“. The Lithuanian National Museum is going to exhibit Robertas Narkus artworks in four departments, which will be presented by the gallery „Vartai“.
This year, the creator of the instagram account avocado_ibuprofen, is joining the VGW project. With more than 115,000 followers, the social media account reflects today's current issues: the meaning of social networks in the age of information overload, the role of galleries in the 21st century, and the artist's life today. avocado_ibuprofen, in collaboration with designer Gaile Pranckūnaite, communication specialists Stefanija Jokštyte and Egle Trimailovaite, created this year's VGW visual identity and merch.
Admission to all participating art spaces is free, except for the MO museum, a 50% discount is available for visits to the Radvila Palace Museum of Art, the Museum of Applied Arts and Design.
