Ieva Rojūtė Lithuanian, b. 1989

Overview

Ieva Rojūtė (b. 1989, Lithuania) is a new generation Lithuanian artist, painter. Her textual works, which take on the spatial form of installation, explore everyday human relationships, family, individual identity conflicts and everyday folklore. Ieva Rojūtė's work constantly returns to the themes of fear, failure, disaster, and anxiety. By rewriting excerpts from conversations, advice, warnings, and speeches, the artist presents fragments of a shared past and collective dreams.

In her works, Rojūtė combines handwritten pictorial texts, drawings of natural elements and abstract shapes. These are almost like separate objects found in the everyday life of the artist. Rojūtė creates mesmerizing installations that adapt to the exhibited places and surround them like vines or snakes. By discussing small and big failures or fears, the artist sensitively and accurately analyzes a wide range of emotional states in her works, which form the contours of the imperfect but inevitable reality we all experience.

In 2013 the artist graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts where she studied painting. Since 2017 she has been taking part in various exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad. Rojūtė’s work has been presented in a number of prominent group exhibitions, including the 13th Baltic Triennial of International Art at the Contemporary Art Center and the Tallinn Art Hall (Vilnius, Tallinn, 2018), at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw (2018), as well as other exhibitions and art spaces, like “The 17th Century Project Space “Autarkia”” (2019), TUM Cultural Association, Le Murate, Florence (2018), “Vartai” Gallery (2017), “Bus Projects” Project Space, Melbourne, Australia, (2019). Besides that, Ieva Rojūtė took part in “Project Space Festival“ in Berlin (2019) with the project space “Editorial”. The artist has also organized solo exhibitions at the “Editorial” project space (2018) and the “PS2” project space in Belfast, Northern Ireland (2019).
